The track and field team will be in Ottawa this weekend with members competing at the Super Saturday Series "Last Chance” meet. The meet marks the final chance for student-athletes to meet the standards to compete at the upcoming OUA Championships, next week at York University.
Saturday’s meet begins at 10:30 a.m. and will run until approximately 3 p.m. at the Louis-Riel Dome.
One big highlight for the team from its recent competitions was the women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Jecica Joseph, Charlotte Gardner, Sophia Skorenky, and Madison Clarke turning in a solid 3:52.80 to win the at the Ithica College Invitational on February 8. The Gee-Gees are expected to challenge for a podium position at the OUA Championships.
Madison Clarke, a third-year communications student from St. Catharines, has been trending in the right direction in the 600-metre event. In her first season competing with the Garnet and Grey she recorded a season best time at the Cornell Kane Invitational last weekend.
Long jumper and hurdler Scott Hancock has also been impressive of late. The graduate student in Sports Psychology improved on his long jump personal best with a 6.98 metre effort at the Fastrack National Invitational in Staten Island last weekend. If he can crack the seven metre mark he would be just the fourth in Gee-Gees team history to do so. Hancock also established a new PB in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.36 during the preliminaries at Fastrack.
