Already halfway into the month of May, the weather couldn’t be getting nicer at a better time. Get out and enjoy the sunshine, go for a run, talk a walk in your favourite park, play a pickup game of soccer or basketball with some friends or hit the gym (SCS or MNT are waiting for you). This all sounds like amazing things to do but the reality is that fewer than two out of every 10 Canadians are meeting guidelines for physical activity, “life”, tends to get in the way. Physical fitness however shouldn’t be looked at as a chore, or some begrudging activity, it should be something you’re passionate about and that you want to do.
This discussion comes at the perfect time as the month of May is Physical Activity Month, a time where we raise awareness for physical fitness. Throughout the rest of the month we will be providing facts and tips through our various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) on how you can get yourself in the mood to better yourself. What better place to start then the department that offers a large array of physical activities. You can check out of Registered Rec Activities, Drop-in sports & classes, intramurals (offered during the fall and winter semesters) and our facilities (Montpetit and Minto Sports Complex).

Physical health is also more than just activity, its dietary (check out Food services), how you take care of your body (check out Health Services) and mental health (check out SASS) to name a few other areas. The University of Ottawa has a wide range of services available to students and university community, don’t be afraid to reach out. Find new ways to better yourself, one small step at a time!
