No matter what your fitness goals may be, the uOttawa campus is the ultimate land of opportunity to crush those goals and achieve your dreams. There are many benefits to being active, including improved muscle and bone health and improved sleep (which is plenty useful come the end of the semester as the pesky exam season begins). Sounds great, right? Here’s how you can get fit and live an active lifestyle on campus, the way you want to.

  1. If you like being active outside, jog the Rideau Canal
Looking for some great scenery while achieving your cardio goals? Jogging the Rideau Canal loop will check all your boxes. With dedicated running paths along the eastern and western sides of the canal, the various loop options will give you a breath-taking view of the Nation’s Capital no matter where you go.

  2. If you’d like to save some time, walk or bike to class
If you don’t live on campus, this is a fantastic way to stay fit and get you to your class! Walking and biking will give you a quick workout that will activate all the right muscles and bring you one step closer to crushing your goals. Want to add an extra challenge? Avoid using the elevators on campus and only use the stairs!

  3. If you want to hit the gym, work out at the University of Ottawa Fitness Facilities
All are welcome at the University of Ottawa Fitness facilities whether you’re an employee, student, or member of the community! If you are brand new to working out, a seasoned vet or someone looking to get back into it, we make no judgements and our attendants are always happy to help.
We have two fitness facilities on campus: the Montpetit Fitness Centre and the Health and Lifestyle Complex. Both are great locations to get a good workout in in between classes, before the start of your day, or to end your day with a good sweat session. As a student, you already have access to both fitness centres, working out is as easy as scanning your student card.

  4. If you’re looking for some extra motivation, accountability or guidance, sign up for Personal Training
Check out the knowledgeable group of uOttawa personal trainers, there is bound to be one that you’d get along with.

  5. If you want to play sports, join an Intramural League
Intramural leagues are a great way to get fit, make friends, and to have fun! We have a wide selection of sports that will provide you with a good workout and a new group of friends! If you are looking to hone your volleyball skills or if you want to master the 5 D’s of Dodgeball, there is something here for you. Be sure to mark your calendar for the start of the next registration period on January 2nd !
Miss out on the fall semester intramural leagues? Visit the online activities calendar to find a list of drop-in sports available you can participate in in the mean time.

  6. If you like working out in a group, sign-up for a Registered Activity
Looking to improve a certain skill or pick up a cool hobby? Our registered activities feature teaching from great qualified coaches and instructors that are ready to help you achieve those goals. Check out the wide range of activities offered on campus, including Aquatics, Dance, Martial Arts, and much more!

We all have different goals and different tastes, find what works for you!
